Ross earns Preseason All-Conference USA accolades

Raiders picked sixth in preseason poll

IRVING, Texas - Middle Tennessee's Chelsea Ross was selected to the Preseason Conference USA Volleyball team as voted by the league's head coaches on Wednesday.

Ross, a native of Murfreesboro, completed her freshman year with 4.06 kills per set and 2.5 digs per set last season. On two occasions, Ross earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors. The Riverdale High School product was selected as a second team All-Sun Belt selection in 2012.

The C-USA Preseason poll was also released on Wednesday with the Blue Raiders receiving two first places votes and picked to finish sixth out of 15 teams. MT completed last season 7-8 in SBC play and 10-23 overall. Rice was picked as the preseason favorite with three first place votes, followed by defending C-USA regular season and tournament Champion Tulsa tied for second with newcomer UTSA. North Texas earned three first place votes for fourth, while UTEP was picked fifth.

The Raiders are optimistic about the upcoming season with top leaders in assists (Shelby Anderton, 8.87 p/set) and blocks (Tyler Richardson, 1.23 p/set) returning in addition to Ross. MT opens the season with the Blue Raider Bash on Aug. 30-31 hosting San Francisco, North Carolina and Notre Dame.

Middle Tennessee hosts the 2013 Conference USA Championship at Alumni Memorial Gym set for Nov. 21-24.
