MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team is excited to announce its schedule for the 2013-14 season as members of Conference USA.
The Blue Raiders get things started by traveling to the Ridgeway Country Club in Memphis, Tenn., for the FedEx Memphis Women's Intercollegiate Tournament Sept. 9-10. This year marks the first time since the 2002 fall season that MT has participated in the tournament.
A week later the team travels to Simpsonville, Ky., to compete in the Cardinal Cup on Sept. 16-17. The 54-hole tournament is hosted by Louisville at the Cardinal Club.
Waiting almost three weeks, MT starts its fall schedule back up at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate Oct. 7-8 hosted by East Carolina at the Greenville Country Club. Just four days later, Middle Tennessee travels to Iowa City, Iowa to compete in the Diane Thomason Invitational on Oct. 12-13 at the Finkbine Golf Course. MT will compete in the event for the first time in school history.
"The fall schedule is going to be a nice change of events," said head coach Chris Adams. "Memphis, East Carolina and Iowa are all new tournaments."
The Blue Raider Invitational hosted by Middle Tennessee Oct. 21-22 at the Old Fort Golf Club caps off the fall season for MT. Last season the Blue Raiders took top honors, winning the event with a team score of 889. Avery George, a sophomore from Cleveland, Tenn., tied for second with a +5 on the par-72.
Middle Tennessee opens its spring season in Miami at the Hurricane Invitational March 3-5.
Following the trip to Miami, MT competes in two tournaments in a nine-day span first competing at the Pinehurst Invitational March 16-17 and then at the UALR Classic March 24-25. MT finished second at the UALR Classic last season after rallying from a fifth place finish on the first day of competition. Allie Knight, a junior from Knoxville, Tenn., finished tied for seventh with a 232, +16.
In a final preparation before the Conference USA Championships, Middle Tennessee travels to the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle's Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga. The three day event will feature one 18-hole round a day.
The Blue Raiders will close the season at their first C-USA Championship April 21-23. The tournament will be held at the Peninsula Golf Club in Gulf Shores, Ala.
"They are all coming off of a great summer of playing and should be in great playing shape," Adams said. "Allie Knight and Avery George are two of the top players returning along with Natalie Chrisopulos, the lone senior. Returning Emily Miller, Emily Williams, Maddie Denton and Haley Cothran in addition to Samantha Gotcher and Lacie York we should be pretty deep as a team."
Middle Tennessee returns four student-athletes that put in more than 15 rounds in 2012-13, which includes George, Knight, Miller and Chrisopulos.
