MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee men's golf team travels to Rocky Face, Ga., to compete in the season-opening 25th Annual Carpet Capital Collegiate. The 54-hole event at The Farm is set for 18 holes each on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The 2013 event will feature 14-of-15 teams from last season's tournament, returning everybody but Alabama. Reigning tournament champion Texas is back to defend its title after shooting 851 for a 13-under score on the par 72 course. Last season, Texas shot a course record 266 and a low front nine 130 in the second round.
The field also has seven teams participating who finished the 2013 spring season ranked in the Top 25 nationally.
Patterson, who missed the 2013 spring season with an elbow injury, is back healthy. The two-time all-conference and NCAA participant owns a 73.1 career stroke average and will be counted on heavily for leadership as the Blue Raiders' No. 1 golfer.
Denman is coming off a solid first season for the Blue Raiders after transferring from Florida. Denman led the team with a 74.9 stroke average after finishing ninth overall at the conference championships.
Cho competed in 11 events last year and had a 76.4 stroke average, while Drake Duncan competed in just three tournaments as a true freshman.
Jordan Jennings, a senior, played in 10 tournaments a year ago and registered a 75.9 stroke average. Like most of the roster, Jennings enjoyed a very solid summer and hopes to build on that momentum as 2013 gets underway.
