MT men finish second, women finish third

Seven runners finish in top-10

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee competed in its second event of the young 2013 season at the UTC PowerAde Invitational. The men's team fell four points behind host Chattanooga to a second place finish, while the women's team settled for third.

The MT men's squad placed all five runners in the top-11 but feel short of repeating its 2012 first place performance.

Shadrack Matelong concluded his second-ever collegiate 5K race with a second place finish. Matelong tallied a time of 15:43.08, missing first by only eight seconds.

Eliud Rutto improved on his time and finish from last week's C-USA Athlete of the Week performance, finishing fourth with a time of 15:45.45. Silas Taiget and Alden Dixon finished sixth and seventh with times of 15:58.02 and 16:00.90, respectively. Robinson Simatei closed out the MT runners, placing 11th with a time of 16:30.26.

For the MT women, Jackline Kiprono tallied a fourth place finish on the two-mile course with a time of 11:44.16.

Lucy Kapkiai made her first appearance in 2013, finishing a Blue Raider second-best seventh with a time of 11:58.01. Autumn Gipson was the last MT runner to finish in the top-10, posting a time of 12:03.08 for ninth.

The cross country teams will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 20 as they compete in the Georgia State Invitational in Atlanta.
