MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee volleyball team fell to Virginia Tech of the ACC in straight sets on Friday night at Alumni Memorial Gym. In the loss, the Blue Raiders fall to 3-2, while the Hokies improve to 5-1.

MT jumped out a 13-5 lead in the first set before Virginia Tech, playing its second match of the day, turned up the attack and went on a 9-1 run to knot the opening stanza at 14-14. The Hokies would lead, 22-20, before the Raiders scored four straight points to bring Virginia Tech to set point. MT could not close the door, however, as the Hokies would tally the final four points of the set, a 26-24 victory.

The Blue Raiders led 14-13 in the second set before Virginia Tech's front line changed the complexion of the match. A combination of timely blocking and hitting propelled the Hokies to a 25-19 win in the second set, and a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

Virginia Tech controlled the tempo out of the locker room, hitting .640 in the third set on its way to a 25-11 victory in the third set for a 3-0 win.

Sophomore Tyler Richardson, sophomore Rachel Shaughnessy and redshirt-freshman Jazmyne Johnson each had four blocks for MT. Redshirt-junior libero Kendall Howard recorded her first career kill in the match.

The Blue Raiders return to action Saturday with a pair of matches at Alumni Memorial Gym, hosting Austin Peay at 3:00 p.m. and North Dakota at 8:00 p.m.
