MT opens 2013-14 season at FedEx Memphis Intercollegiate

Murfreesboro, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team travels to Memphis, Tenn., Sept. 9-10 to compete in the season-opening FedEx Memphis Intercollegiate at Ridgeway Country Club.

The FedEx Memphis Intercollegiate is 54-hole event at Ridgeway Country Club is set for 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes to close the two day event Tuesday.

Reigning tournament champion Samford is back to defend its tournament title after shooting a 913, which was 14 strokes under the next team Xavier.
The Blue Raiders will compete against 11 teams at the FedEx Memphis Intercollegiate in tournament host Memphis, Alabama State, IUPUI, Lamar, McNeese State, New Orleans, North Texas, North Florida, Samford, Sam Houston State and Texas Southern.

Head Coach Chris Adams will take four returners in Avery George, Allie Knight, Emily Miller and Emily Williams, along with newcomer Samantha Gotcher.

George comes off a stellar freshman campaign, finding her way to the number two spot last season for Middle Tennessee. She is the lead returner for MT with a 77.52 stroke average after finishing ninth overall at the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Championships.

Knight competed in eight events last year for a 77.58 stroke average, while Miller completed 15 rounds for a stroke average of 79.33.

Williams, a sophomore, competed in the Hurricane Invitational, carding a low round of 72 on the second day finishing tied for 13th.

New to the MT roster but not to Tennessee golf courses is freshman Gotcher, who won the 2012 TSSAA individual state championship and was a four-time letterwinner at Clarksville High School. She also helped Clarksville win back-to-back state titles in 2011 and 2012.
