MT opens Memphis tournament tied for first

Blue Raiders top leaderboard through 36 holes

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team sits tied for first with Samford after the first two rounds of play Monday at the FedEx Memphis Women's Intercollegiate hosted by Memphis at the Ridgeway Country Club.

The Blue Raiders shot 600 through 36 holes at the par 71 course and are tied with Samford. North Texas currently sits third, carding 607, while Lamar and tournament host Memphis close out the top five with 611 and 612, respectively.

Samford's Bailey Gray sits atop the leaderboard after the first two rounds of play with a 146, while UNT's McKenzie Ralston and McNeese State's Sydney Martien are tied for second with 147. MT's Samantha Gotcher is also tied for fourth with North Texas' Chaslyn Chrismer, shooting 148 for +6.

MT led the 12-team pack after the first 18 holes, carding a 302 for +18, while Samford was a close second, shooting 303. The Tigers ranked third after the opening round, posting 305. North Texas and Lamar closed out the top five, shooting 308 and 310, respectively, in the first round.

Avery George led the Blue Raiders with a 74 through the first 18 holes, while Gotcher posted a 75. George had four birdies in the opening round, while Gotcher had one.

In the opening round, Allie Knight shot 76, while Emily Miller rounded out MT's top four with 77. Emily Williams also competed for the Blue Raiders, carding a 78 in the opening round, while Lacie York played as an individual with a 79 through the first 18 holes.

In the second round, the Blue Raiders shot 298 for +14, while Gotcher led the team with 73. Miller carded a 74, while George (75) and Williams (76) rounded out MT's top four for the round. Knight posted a 79 in the second round, while York recorded a 71. Gotcher and Miller each had two birdies in the final 18 of the day, while York birdied three holes.

During the second round, Samford carded 297 to tie Middle Tennessee at 600 through 36 holes. UNT shot 299 in the second round, jumping to third. Lamar recorded a 301, while Sam Houston State had a 306 and Memphis posted a 307.

Through 36 holes, Gotcher paces the Blue Raiders with 148 (+6), while George has 149 for +7. George sits sixth overall alongside Memphis' Leighann Cabush and McNeese State's Dolores Brown. Miller shot 151 on the day, while Williams carded 154. Knight and York posted 155 and 158, respectively.
