Blue Raiders open fall slate with second-place finish

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team opened the fall schedule with a strong showing at the FedEx Memphis Women's Intercollegiate, finishing second at the two day event Tuesday at the Ridgeway Country Club.
The Blue Raiders took second-place honors with a score of 895 (302-298-295) through 54 holes. Samford claimed the team title for the third consecutive season, shooting 889 (303-297-289) to lead the 12-team pack. Lamar finished third with a 908, while North Texas was fourth with a 916. Tournament host Memphis rounded out the top five, posting a 917.
MT's Samantha Gotcher earned third-place honors, shooting a 222 (75-73-74) for +9. Samford teammates Sydney Needham (219) and Natalie Mitchell (221) finished first and second, respectively.
Middle Tennessee recorded its best round of the tournament Tuesday, shooting 295. Emily Miller and Emily Williams led the Blue Raiders in the third round as each recorded a 73. Miller finished the FedEx Memphis Intercollegiate tied for sixth with an overall score of 224 (77-74-73) for +11.
Avery George was the third-best finisher for MT at the event, turning in a 226 (74-75-77) to tie for 11th in the overall field. Williams was 13th overall with a score of 227 (78-76-73), while Allie Knight shot 230 (76-79-75). Playing as an individual, Lacie York recorded an 84 in the third round to card a 242 for the tournament.
The Blue Raiders return to action Sept. 16-17, traveling to Simpsonville, Ky., for the Cardinal Cup.
