SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Middle Tennessee volleyball team was defeated by Oklahoma in straight sets Saturday morning at the Hammons Student Center on the campus of Missouri State University. In the loss, the Blue Raiders fall to 5-4, while the Sooners improve to 8-1.

MT came out firing in the opening set, leading 14-9 after a kill by Tyler Richardson. Oklahoma would then come charging back, rattling off a 6-0 run to take a 15-14 lead. The two teams would trade a handful of tallies, with a kill by Jale Hervey putting the Blue Raiders ahead 20-18. Much like Missouri State the night before, Oklahoma followed the narrative of closing out the set emphatically, as the Sooners scored seven of the opening stanza's final eight points to win 25-21.

Oklahoma, awoken by Middle Tennessee's hot start, opened the second set on a 12-1 run that provided an insurmountable cushion. The Sooners led by at least seven for the remainder of the set, winning 25-16. Oklahoma continued the pace in the third set, opening with an 11-3 run and adding an 8-0 run later in the set, leading wire-to-wire and taking the set and match with a 25-9 victory.

Freshman Maya Miller made her collegiate debut in the match, starting and playing in the first set. Miller recorded one kill and one dig. Hervey led the Blue Raiders with nine kills, while Chelsea Ross and Monet Marshall each tallied eight. Ross had a team-high 11 digs, while Shelby Anderton posted a team-best 16 assists.

Middle Tennessee returns to action Saturday evening in Springfield with a match against Alabama A&M, slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
