Raiders head to Blue Grass State for Cardinal Cup

MT set for second tournament of the fall slate

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team travels to Simpsonville, Ky., for its second tournament of the 2013 fall season, competing at the Cardinal Cup Sept. 16-17 hosted by Louisville.

The 54-hole tournament will consist of two rounds Monday and a final round of 18 Tuesday. Both days will begin at 8:40 a.m. with a shotgun start. The 13-team field will consist of tournament host Louisville, Ball State, Cincinnati, Houston, Kansas, Illinois State, Marshall, Memphis, Murray State, Northern Kentucky, USF and UT Chattanooga.

Last week, MT had a strong showing at the FedEx Memphis Women's Intercollegiate, finishing second at the two day event at the Ridgeway Country Club. The Blue Raiders took second-place honors with a score of 895 (302-298-295) through 54 holes as freshman Samantha Gotcher led MT with a third-place finish overall. She shot a 222 (75-73-74) for +9.

Middle Tennessee will have a familiar lineup at the Cardinal Cup with the same five competing from the previous week in Gotcher, Emily Miller, Avery George, Emily Williams and Allie Knight.

MT recorded its best round last weekend on the final day of the tournament, shooting 295. Miller and Williams led the Blue Raiders in the third round as each recorded a 73. Miller finished tied for sixth with an overall score of 224 (77-74-73) for +11.

George was the third-best finisher for MT at the event, turning in a 226 (74-75-77) to tie for 11th in the overall field. Williams was 13th overall with a score of 227 (78-76-73), while Knight shot 230 (76-79-75).

The Blue Raiders are also sending Natalie Chrisopulos to the Cardinal Cup to compete as an individual.
