SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team opened the Cardinal Cup Monday, shooting a 603 through 36 holes as Samantha Gotcher led the squad with a score of 148 at the par 72 Cardinal Club course.

MT posted a score of 302 in the first round and carded a 301 during the second set of 18 for 27-over par on the day. Tournament host Louisville leads the 13-team pack with a 567 for 9-under par after 36 holes, while Kansas sits in second with 581 for 5-over par.

Gotcher leads the Blue Raiders at 148 for 4-over par and is tied for 16th overall. The freshman shot a 73 in first round and a 75 in the second set of 18. Gotcher posted three birdies during the second round.

"We just have to get a couple of scores around par to move up the leaderboard," said head coach Chris Adams. "Samantha is giving us some great rounds, but we need to eliminate a double or two to get some others contributing more. Emily Miller and Emily Williams are also hanging in there with some very steady golf."

Miller was second on the team for MT, recording a score of 150 through 36 holes to be tied for 25th overall. She carded a pair of 75s on the day for 6-over par, while Williams shot a 151 with a 76 in the first round and 75 in the second.

Avery George posted a 79 in the first round and a 76 in the second for a score of 155 on the day for 11-over par. Allie Knight was just behind George, carding a 156 after recording 78 in both sets of 18 holes.

Competing at the Cardinal Cup as an individual, Natalie Chrisopulos shot a 78 through the first 18 holes. She posted a 79 in the second for a total score of 157 on the day.
