MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - ESPN analyst and former University of Tennessee men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl is scheduled to speak at the Middle Tennessee men's basketball Tip-off Celebration Wednesday, Oct. 23.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 23 in the ballroom on the second floor of the student union on the Middle Tennessee campus. This will be the second consecutive Tip-off Celebration for the Blue Raiders as the inaugural one was held at the start of last season.
"I'm just really excited about coming to Murfreesboro and visiting with the Blue Raider fans," Pearl said. "I've followed MTSU basketball for many years; I've competed against the Blue Raiders and have a genuine fondness and respect for Coach Davis and his program."
The event will serve as a kickoff to the 2013-14 hoops season. The Tip-off Celebration will feature Pearl as the guest speaker, the musical stylings of current MT player Tweety Knight, the Blue Raider cheerleaders, the pep band and the back-to-back conference championship MT men's basketball team.
There is a lot for MT fans to celebrate at the event as the Blue Raiders are fresh off a 28-6 season in 2012-13, where they reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1989 and seventh time in program history. The event will give fans their first opportunity to meet the 2013-14 squad and snag a few autographs.
Tickets to the 2013 Tip-off Celebration are $300 for a table of 10 or $30 per person. Fans can purchase tickets by contacting Debbie Bartlett in the men's basketball office at (615) 898-2916. Be sure to reserve your tickets now as seating is limited and last year's event sold out.
Valet parking will available near the student union off of MTSU Boulevard. Those in attendance will also receive a special MT men's basketball gift.
The Blue Raiders are currently enjoying the second-longest regular season home winning streak in the nation at 28 games. They return eight players from last year's squad, including starters Shawn Jones and Kerry Hammonds. MT will look to continue its success in 2013-14 during its inaugural Conference USA season.
MT opens the 2013-14 campaign, hosting Truman State Nov. 4 for an exhibition at 7 p.m. The Blue Raiders tip-off regular season play Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. as they welcome NCAA Tournament participant Southern University to the Murphy Center.
