MT Media Relations

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The 37th-ranked Middle Tennessee Blue Raider tennis team began the season with a 6-0 win at the University of Hawai'i over the weekend, winning all six singles matches before the doubles were completely rained out.

The singles matches took almost seven hours to play and were interrupted four times because of rain. Only one match, with MT's Kirk Jackson at No. 5, went three sets.

Twelfth-ranked Daniel Klemetz defeated Reggie Moralejo, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 1 position, followed by 27th-rated Robert Gustafsson winning, 7-6 (0), 6-1, over Justin Manolascino.

Middle Tennessee's Oliver Foreman, ranked 102nd, triumphed 6-3, 6-1 against Molino Oda of Hawai'i at No. 3, while Michael Staniak defeated Fransisco Brigade, 6-2, 6-4.

Jackson won 5-7, 6-2, 10-3, over Jorge Gonzales, and Trevor Short picked up a victory at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Lincoln Leoder.

The Blue Raiders return to action on January 26 with a 1 p.m. match against 67th-ranked Louisville at the Racquet Club in Murfreesboro.
