Trifecta of Blue Raiders advance to finals at UNLV Invite

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Three Middle Tennessee players advanced to the flight finals at the UNLV Women's Tennis Fall Invitational on Saturday at the Vicki and Frank Fertitta Tennis Complex.
In total, the Blue Raiders picked up seven victories on the second day of the tournament with five of those coming from singles action.
"We definitely took positive steps forward today, as the girls did a better job competing and handling adversity," said head coach Shelley Godwin. "We need to come out tomorrow and finish with a strong day three."
Johannesburg, South Africa native Jesse Grace won a 6-1, 6-1 match over New Mexico State's Susana Alcaraz to advance to the second flight title match on Sunday. In the fifth flight, junior Nayara Moraes snatched a 6-4, 6-3 win over Long Beach State's Karolina Rozenberg to advance to the title match.
Senior Flavia Nagayama battled in a three-set contest, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, to defeat Jordan Denesik of North Arizona as she advanced to the finals in the sixth flight.
Freshman Sarah Sediri, advanced in her draw by default, but played and won a non-flight match versus SIU's Anita Lee (6-1, 6-3). Meanwhile, sophomore Alexandra Torres bounced back Saturday with a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Lauren Hoeksta of the Salukis.
No. 41 Lucia Batta of UNLV collected a 6-0, 6-4 win in the first flight semifinals over Tiffany William. Romania native Irina Constantinide fell to LBSU's Julie Gerard, 6-0, 7-5. Amanda Manns advanced to the consolation final by virtue of a bye.
In doubles competition, Nagayama and Moraes got the Raiders' first doubles win of the day with an 8-2 decision over Olivia Headford and Tatum Rochin of Northern Arizona. The freshman tandem of Sediri and William advanced to the finals of the second flight by default of North Texas' Alexis Thoma and Agustina Valenzeula.
Constantinide/Grace fell 8-5 to Long Beach State's Ebba Unden/Rosenberg, while Manns and Torres were edged 8-5 by Mia Brandt/Chloe Jolliff of New Mexico State.
