MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee men's basketball team is gearing up for a busy week ahead as the squad begins official practice for the 2013-14 season amidst a full slate of homecoming festivities for the university.

The Blue Raiders' first official practice is Monday at 3:30 p.m. on the main Murphy Center floor and will be open to the public. MT will hold practice Wednesdays and Fridays at that same time in addition to 6:30 a.m. practices on Mondays and Wednesdays in the near future.

With Saturday being the MT football homecoming game, the Blue Raider basketball team will be on hand during tailgate time. The players will be in the Grove on the MTSU campus at noon grilling hotdogs. Fans should stop by before kick-off at 2:30 p.m. to meet the players, grab a bite to eat and pick-up men's basketball 2013-14 schedule cards.

Prior to this weekend, MT players will be on hand at Stones River Mall Tuesday, Oct. 1 for the Homecoming Week Chili Cook Off at 5 p.m. Zane Gibson, Torin Walker and Reggie Upshaw Jr., alongside members of the women's basketball team will serve as judges for the annual competition.

Middle Tennessee returns eight players from last year's squad that posted a 28-6 record, including starters Shawn Jones and Kerry Hammonds II. As juniors, Jones and Hammonds helped guide MT to the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1989 and the seventh all-time. The Blue Raiders recorded a 19-1 mark in Sun Belt Conference play last season, winning the regular season league title for the second-straight year and third time in the last four seasons.

MT opens the 2013-14 campaign, hosting Truman State for an exhibition game Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. The Blue Raiders tip-off regular season play Nov. 10 against Southern University at 4 p.m. inside the Murphy Center.

Season tickets are still on sale for the 2013-14 home slate. Tickets are $140 or fans can purchase a combination of both men's and women's season tickets at a discounted rate of $199.
