GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team sits third after the opening day of competition at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina at the Greenville Country Club.

Middle Tennessee recorded a 309 through the first 18 holes, but then managed to post a 289 in the second round of play. The Blue Raiders were led by Avery George, who paces the 90 player field, with a 142 on the day. She carded a 75 in the first round and a 67 in the second for five-under par.
"Through some tough weather, the team stepped up and posted low round of the year at 289 with Avery finishing birdie-birdie to shoot 67," said head coach Chris Adams. "After a tough opening round, they gutted it out and made the most out of the day to be in contention. We have given ourselves a chance to win now. We have to stay focused and take it one shot at a time."
