ATLANTA - Middle Tennessee's Ebony Rowe was one of 25 players selected to the prestigious Wade Trophy Watch list on Tuesday morning as announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
On Monday, Rowe earned one of eight spots on the Conference USA Preseason team. She was an All-American Honorable Mention in 2013 and already holds the Blue Raider record for career rebounds (1,014). The Lexington, Ky., product is the only women's basketball player in school history to have reached 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career.
The senior forward produced 21 double-doubles, averaged 19.7 points and 11.2 rebounds per game, while ranking among the top-25 in four NCAA categories last season.
In addition to Rowe, FIU's Jerica Coley was named to the list. The Conference USA duo were the only two representatives from non-AQ conferences. In total, there were 18 institutions and seven conferences represented.
Now in its 37th year, The Wade Trophy is named in honor of the late, legendary three-time national champion Delta State University coach, Lily Margaret Wade. Regarded as "The Heisman of Women's Basketball," the award is presented annually to the NCAA Division I Player of the Year by the National Association of Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) and the WBCA.
The preseason list is composed of top NCAA Division I women's basketball players who best embody Wade's spirit from 18 different institutions and seven conferences. A committee of coaches, administrators and media from across the United States compiled the list using the following criteria: game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team, and overall playing ability.
