IRVING, Texas - Avery George of the Middle Tennessee women's golf team was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office Wednesday morning.
This marks the first weekly honor for the Blue Raiders since joining C-USA. The award comes after George led the 90-player field as the only player to shoot under par at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate Oct. 7-8 hosted by East Carolina. She posted a winning score of 215 for one-under par at the 6,004-yard 72-par course at the Greenville Country Club.
The sophomore shot a low of 67 in the second round on Monday, while carding a 75 in the first set of 18 and 73 during the third round. Her low round of 67 was the best round of any Blue Raider this fall season.
George helped the Blue Raiders to a second-place finish among the 16-team field, recording an overall team score of 901 (309-289-303). She led MT to its lowest round score of the season during the second round as the Blue Raiders posted a 289 Monday afternoon, battling windy and rainy conditions.
The Cleveland Tenn., native and the rest of the Raiders return to action Oct. 12-13, traveling to Iowa City, Iowa for the Diane Thomason Invitational.
