Raiders to host UTEP and UTSA

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee volleyball team (10-6, 2-1 C-USA) looks to improve upon its 5-2 mark at Alumni Memorial Gym when the Blue Raiders host a pair of teams from the Lone Star State this weekend in UTEP and UTSA.
MT played one match last weekend, defeating UAB in four sets in the Blue Raiders' first home match since Sept. 7. Sophomore Chelsea Ross paced MT with a double-double of 12 kills and 15 digs, while redshirt-junior Kendall Howard tallied 18 digs and redshirt-sophomore Tyler Richardson notched six blocks.
Through 16 matches, Ross leads the Blue Raiders in kills per set at 3.12. Sophomore Shelby Anderton is the team leader in assists per set at 5.86, while Howard has tallied a team-best 4.14 digs per set. Richardson has recorded a team-best 1.24 blocks per set and .412 hitting percentage.

Scouting the UTEP Miners
UTEP comes to town with a 9-6 record and 3-1 mark in C-USA. The Miners went 2-0 against a pair of teams from the Sunshine State last week, downing FIU in three sets on Friday before defeating Florida Atlantic in four.
Xitlali Herrera leads UTEP in kills per set at 4.12, while Malia Patterson has tallied a team-best 10.37 assists per set. The Miners have recorded a balanced effort on the block and in digs, with Herrera leading the team in blocks per set (1.00) and Victoria Valencia in digs per set (3.76).
Scouting the UTSA Roadrunners
UTSA enters the weekend with an unblemished 4-0 mark in C-USA, while 12-6 overall prior to the Roadrunners' Friday match. UTSA swept both Florida Atlantic and FIU at home over the weekend.
The Roadrunners are led by Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year McKenzie Adams. The UTSA senior was named WAC Player of the Year in 2012 and an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. Adams leads C-USA and is third nationally in both kills per set (5.37) and points per set (5.80). Annie Kunes leads the Roadrunners and C-USA in digs per set (5.22), while Kylie Schott has posted a team-best 1.15 blocks per set. Brandy Huskey has tallied a team-best 9.67 assists per set.
The Blue Raiders are 65th in the nation in blocks per set (2.48), with redshirt-sophomore Tyler Richardson 54th (1.24), good for second in Conference USA Richardson is also 25th in the nation in hitting percentage (.412), which leads C-USA. Redshirt-junior Kendall Howard is ninth in Conference USA at 4.14 digs per set.
MT to Host C-USA Championship
Conference USA selected Middle Tennessee and Alumni Memorial Gym as the host site for the 2013 Conference USA Volleyball Championship, to take place Nov. 21-24. The top 12 teams in the C-USA standings will qualify for the single elimination tournament, with the top four seeds receiving a first-round bye.
Next Up: Unfamiliar Foes
Middle Tennessee hits the road next weekend for a pair of Conference USA matches, facing LA Tech (Oct. 18, 7:00 p.m.) and Charlotte (Oct. 20, Noon.) MT has not faced Charlotte since 2005, and has not seen the Lady Techsters since the two were Sun Belt opponents for one year in 2000.
