MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee volleyball team was defeated by Conference USA foe UTEP in four sets on Friday night at Alumni Memorial Gym. In the loss, the Blue Raiders fall to 10-7 and 2-2 in C-USA play, while the Miners improve to 10-6 and 4-1 in C-USA.

Sophomore Chelsea Ross led the Blue Raiders with 12 kills, while redshirt-junior Kendall Howard tallied a team-high 18 digs. Redshirt-sophomore Tyler Richardson posted a team-high six blocks in the defeat.

After a 25-22 first set loss, the Blue Raiders answered back emphatically. MT jumped ahead to a 10-3 lead in the frame, and looked virtually on autopilot as they extended the advantage to 15-7. UTEP would rattle off the next three points to make it 15-10, before the Raiders pulled away from the Miners, opening up a 10-point advantage at 22-12 and winning the set, 25-17.

UTEP took control of the match out of the intermission, winning the third set handily at 25-12. The Miners led throughout the majority of the fourth set before the Raiders made one last stab at a comeback, tying the set three times - at 19-19, 20-20 and 21-21. A trio of errors ended MT's hopes at forcing a fifth set, bringing the Raiders to match point at 24-21, with a UTEP kill at 24-22 closing out the match with a four-set victory.

The Blue Raiders return to action Sunday at 1:00 p.m. when MT hosts UTSA at Alumni Memorial Gym.
