IOWA CITY, Iowa. - After two rounds at the Diane Thomason Invitational Saturday, the Middle Tennessee women's golf team sits eighth, shooting 620 at the 6,212-yard par-72 Finkbine Golf Course.

The Blue Raiders carded 313 in the first round and a 307 in the second set of 18 holes for a total of 620 through 36 holes. Illinois leads the 12-team pack with a 600, while Kansas is just a stroke behind at 601. GRU Augusta (603) is third, while Ohio State (606) and Wisconsin (609) round out the top five.

"It was a tough day out there," said head coach Chris Adams. "The conditions were pretty windy and we didn't handle it too well from the start. We had way too many doubles to be further up the leaderboard and just didn't finish strong in the second round. We just need to play a lot smarter as a group. The good thing about it is we get to play tomorrow."

Sophomore Emily Miller led MT through 36 holes, shooting 152 for eight over par. She is currently tied for 12th in the 73-player field. Miller recorded a 79 in the first round and shot a team-best 73 in the second round.

"Emily Miller really held it together in the second round," Adams said. "We just have to have some others step up."

Middle Tennessee freshman Samantha Gotcher carded a 155 on the day, shooting a 79 during the first 18 and a 76 in the second. She is tied for 25th in the overall field. Emily Williams and Allie Knight followed closely behind, recording scores of 156 and 157, respectively. Williams shot a pair of 78s, while Knight posted a 77 in the first round and an 80 in the second.

The reigning C-USA Golfer of the Week, Avery George, struggled in the opening rounds of the Diane Thomason Invite, turning in a 160 on the day to card an 80 in each round. Playing as an individual for MT, sophomore Madison Denton posted a 159 through 36 holes. She shot an 82 in the first set of 18 and a 77 in the second.
