Fox advances to round of 16 at ITA Ohio Valley Regional

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Sophomore David Fox advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional in Knoxville on Saturday, playing as one of four Blue Raiders in singles competition at the event hosted by Tennessee.

Fox, who had a bye in the opening round, defeated Vanderbilt's Suresh Eswaran in his first match (6-3, 7-6). He advanced to play Tennessee Tech's Alex Arovin, winning again in straight sets (6-4, 6-1).

Fox will face Joe Salisbury of Memphis in the round of 16, with the match slated for 12:30 p.m. CT on Sunday.

Sophomore Victor Cornea also had a bye in the opening round, playing his first match Saturday against Michal Lyzwa of Wright State. Cornea won the match (7-5, 6-1), to advance and face Kentucky's Alejandro Gomez. Gomez defeated Cornea in the round of 32 (6-2, 6-4).

Junior Ettore Zito, who won his opening round match Friday vs. Giovanni Samaha of Morehead State (5-7, 6-3, 6-3), fell in the round of 64 to Purdue's Mark Kovacs (6-2, 1-6, 6-4). Freshman Aaron Jumonville won his opening match Friday over Xavier's Adam Krull (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) before falling Saturday to Memphis' Johnny Grimal (6-3, 6-4).

In addition to Fox's singles match, the Blue Raiders are also in action in the doubles draw on Sunday with Fox and Cornea facing Louisville's Alex Gornet and Albert Wagner at 7:30 a.m. CT.
