Miller leads Blue Raiders in Iowa

MT finishes 10th at Diane Thomason Invite

IOWA CITY, Iowa. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team wrapped up competition at the Diane Thomason Invitational Sunday afternoon, finishing 10th with a score of 939 at the 6,212-yard par-72 Finkbine Golf Course.

MT shot a 319 in the third round of competition of the Diane Thomason Invite for an overall score of 939 (313-307-319). Illinois topped the 12-team pack with an 899, while Kansas took second with a score of 904. Wisconsin finished third, shooting 907, while Ohio State (911) and GRU Augusta (917) rounded out the top five.

"We just didn't start again very good," said head coach Chris Adams. "We had too many doubles to do anything good. We're disappointed, but we are going to work hard to get more consistent. Now we have our home event to get ready for next week."

Emily Miller led the Blue Raiders at the two-day tournament, carding a 232. The sophomore finished 25th in the 73 player field, after recording an 80 in the final round of play. Emily Williams also shot an 80 in the final set of 18 holes, posting an overall 236.

Middle Tennessee freshman Samantha Gotcher was third on the squad with an overall score of 237, after putting up an 82 in the final round of play. Sophomore Avery George carded the lowest score of the day for the Blue Raiders, turning in a 78 for a total of 238 for the tournament, while Allie Knight also posted an overall score of 238. She shot an 81 in the final round of 18 holes.

Playing as an individual for MT, Madison Denton carded an 82 in the third round Sunday for a total score of 241.

The Blue Raiders return to action Oct. 21-22, hosting the Blue Raider Invitational at Old Fort Golf Club in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
