Raiders travel to Louisiana Tech and Charlotte

MT takes to the road for pair of C-USA opponents

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee volleyball team (11-7, 3-2 C-USA) leaves the friendly confines of Alumni Memorial Gym for road matches this weekend at Louisiana Tech and Charlotte.

MT is coming off a split a pair of weekend matches at AMG, falling to UTEP in four sets on Friday before sweeping first-place UTSA on Sunday. Against the Roadrunners on Sunday, the Blue Raiders hit .360, including a blistering .579 mark in the decisive third set.

Scouting the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters
Louisiana Tech looks to improve upon a 1-4 mark in C-USA play, having dropped its lone match of the previous weekend to East Carolina in five sets. The Lady Techsters will be seven days removed from their most recent match when they play the Blue Raiders. LA Tech's last win came on Oct. 4 at Charlotte.

The Lady Techsters are led offensively by Xzache Mathis, who is ninth in C-USA with 3.41 kills per set. Maria Coelho has tallied a team-best 8.65 assists per set, while Alejandra Aviles has notched a team-high 3.75 digs per set. LA Tech is 13th in the nation in aces per set with 1.76.

Scouting the Charlotte 49ers
Charlotte enters the weekend at 0-6 in C-USA play. As of Friday, the 49ers are the lone winless team in the conference, having fallen in straight sets last weekend at Rice and North Texas. In total, Charlotte has dropped its last 11 sets. The 49ers have played four of their first six C-USA matches on the road, making trips to FIU, Florida Atlantic, Rice and North Texas.

Amanda Videmsek leads Charlotte with 3.20 kills per set, while Britney Leigh Held is fifth in C-USA with 10.30 assists per set. Michelle Hovey is fourth in C-USA and 42nd in the nation with 4.84 digs per set. The 49ers are fifth in C-USA in blocking, and have outblocked their opponents per set, 2.15-1.89.

Speaking Statistically
The Blue Raiders are 66th in the nation in blocks per set (2.48), with redshirt-sophomore Tyler Richardson 50th (1.24). Richardson is 18th in the nation in hitting percentage (.416), with both marks leads C-USA. Redshirt-junior Kendall Howard is ninth in Conference USA at 4.08 digs per set.

MT to Host C-USA Championship
Conference USA selected Middle Tennessee and Alumni Memorial Gym as the host site for the 2013 Conference USA Volleyball Championship, to take place Nov. 21-24. The top 12 teams in the C-USA standings will qualify for the single elimination tournament, with the top four seeds receiving a first-round bye.

The Blue Raiders return home for their next three matches into November, beginning on Tuesday when MT hosts Louisville in the 2013 Dig Pink match at Alumni Memorial Gym.
