Women's golf set to host Blue Raider Invitational

MT set home tournament at Old Fort Golf Club

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team is set to host the third-straight Blue Raider Invitational at Old Fort Golf Club Oct. 21-22.

The 15-team tournament is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday with a shotgun start. The field includes UALR, Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Belmont, Jacksonville State, Lamar, UMKC, Morehead State, Murray State, South Alabama, Southern Illinois, Tennessee Tech, UTEP and Troy. The Blue Raider Invite will be held at the par-72, 6,177-yard course at Old Fort Golf Club with two rounds on Monday and the final round of 18 on Tuesday.

At last year's Blue Raider Invite, MT claimed top honors with a score of 889, while Morehead State came in second with a 905. UALR and Southern Illinois took third and second, respectively, carding 906 and 908. Southern Mississippi rounded out the top five, shooting 911.

This will be the Blue Raiders' fifth tournament of the 2013 fall season. Through the first four tournaments, MT has a stroke average of 303.3. Freshman Samantha Gotcher leads the team with an average of 74.7, while sophomore Emily Miller is second with 75.0.

Sophomore Avery George was the low medalist at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate Oct. 8, where she shot a low round of 69. After shooting 215 for one-under par, George was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week. She is currently third on the MT squad this season with a stroke average of 75.7.

George finished the 2012 Blue Raider Invitational tied for second, carding a 221. MT graduates Ashley Haggard and Olivia Love tied for fourth-place, carding 222. Emily Miller and Natalie Chrisopulos were on the five-member lineup for Middle Tennessee last year, turning in scores of 229 and 235, respectively.
