Raiders look to extend three-match winning streakOctober 21, 2013 · @MTAthletics
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee volleyball team (13-7, 5-2 C-USA) opens up a three-match homestand with its penultimate non-conference tilt of 2013, a Tuesday night match vs. Louisville at Alumni Memorial Gym. The Blue Raiders are winners of three straight, having defeated Louisiana Tech and Charlotte on the road last weekend after a win over UTSA in the previous match. MT is 8-3 in its past 11 matches.
Through 20 matches, sophomore Chelsea Ross leads MT with 3.36 kills per set. Sophomore Shelby Anderton has tallied a team-best 6.34 assists per set, while redshirt-junior Kendall Howard has recorded a team high 4.19 digs per set. Redshirt-sophomore Tyler Richardson's totals of 1.24 blocks per set and a .434 hitting percentage are both tops in C-USA.
Tuesday's match will also serve as the annual Dig Pink match to raise awareness and support for those battling breast cancer and its survivors.
Scouting the Louisville Cardinals
Louisville enters Tuesday's respite from conference play at a time in which it is cruising through the American Athletic Conference. The Cardinals, who are in the American for the 2013-14 season before transitioning to the ACC, are an unblemished 7-0 in conference action. The Cardinals have won all but three of the 24 sets played so far in American matches, but face a challenging stretch of the schedule with seven straight road matches. Louisville fell in five sets at Wichita State last Tuesday before sweeping Cincinnati on Friday. Following Tuesday night's match, the Cardinals will go to Rutgers, UConn, Temple and Memphis before returning to their home floor.
Maya McClendon leads the Cardinals with 3.03 kills per set, while Katie George has tallied a team-best 9.58 assists per set. Caitlin Welch leads the Cardinals with 4.77 digs per set, with Randi Ewing recording team-best marks in blocks per set (0.94) and hitting percentage (.391).

The Blue Raiders are 82nd in the nation in blocks per set (2.40), with redshirt-sophomore Tyler Richardson 53rd (1.24). Richardson is 12th in the nation in hitting percentage (.434), with both marks leading C-USA. Redshirt-junior Kendall Howard is ninth in Conference USA at 4.19 digs per set, while sophomore Shelby Anderton is fourth in C-USA in aces per set (0.31).
Painting a Masterpiece
Redshirt-junior Monet Marshall shattered her previous career best when she tallied 18 kills in a win over Charlotte (Oct. 20). Marshall's biggest kill came in the fifth set, in the midst of a 4-0 run that turned a 13-11 deficit into a 15-13 victory to win the match.
