BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Middle Tennessee men's tennis sophomores Victor Cornea and David Fox continued singles play on Monday at the Birmingham Futures, played at the Highland Park Tennis Center.
Fox advanced to the fourth round after a win over Yates Johnson in the third round (6-4, 7-5). In the fourth round, Fox faced Stefan Lindmark, with Lindmark emerging victorious in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-4).
Cornea won his lone match of the day, rebounding from a first set loss to defeat Korey Lovett (4-6, 6-3, 6-2). Cornea will face David Gooch on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.
"These are great results for Foxy and Vic," said head men's tennis coach Jimmy Borendame. "We are very happy for their success and I think they have set themselves up to become nationally-ranked singles and doubles players this spring. This is a great way for them to wrap up their fall season heading into our offseason and then the dual season."
Doubles play will begin for Cornea and Fox tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. when the Blue Raider pair faces Hans Podlipnik-Castillo and Chad Rhoden.
