NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Neiko Hunter of the Middle Tennessee men's basketball team was named the Tennessee Sportswriters Association Player of the Week, claiming the TSWA's first basketball honor this season as announced by the organization Tuesday.

Hunter helped the Blue Raiders to a come-from-behind season-opening victory over 2013 NCAA Tournament participant Southern University Sunday afternoon. MT overcame a 12-point second-half deficit to claim a 78-75 victory inside the Murphy Center, extending its regular season home winning streak to 29 games, the second longest in the country.

The senior forward posted a career and game-high 20 points in the season-opening win, going 6-for-11 from the floor. His previous career-best was 17 points, which he recorded against Arkansas State Feb. 7, 2013. Hunter also tied his career-best mark, grabbing six rebounds against Southern, which was also a game-best.

The Eutaw, Ala., native also recorded a personal-best three made three-pointers, going 3-for-4 from long distance. Hunter also hit a crucial free throw to put MT up by five 72-67 with 1:19 to go in the game, after MT's 14-4 run to tie the contest at 61.

Hunter and the rest of the Blue Raiders return to the Glass House Wednesday, hosting North Florida at 7 p.m. as part of a four-game homestand to open the 2013-14 campaign.
