MT closes out regular season at Marshall and Tulane
Raiders in pursuit of first-round bye at C-USA ChampionshipNovember 13, 2013 · @MTAthletics
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee volleyball team (17-10, 8-4 C-USA) closes out the 2013 regular season on the road with matches at Marshall and Tulane. The Blue Raiders enter the weekend still in contention for a top-four seed and first-round bye for the Conference USA Volleyball Championship. MT can finish as high as third and as low as eighth entering the weekend.
Scouting the Marshall Thundering HerdMarshall dropped two matches over the weekend at Southern Miss and Tulsa, leaving itself in a precarious position in trying to grab a top-four seed and first-round bye for the Conference USA Volleyball Championship. The Herd dropped both road matches in four sets, now needing a win over MT and a pair of losses from both the Blue Raiders and North Texas.
Scouting the Tulane Green WaveTulane enters the weekend still in contention for the No. 1 seed and in the driver's seat for a first-round bye. The Green Wave finishes first with a pair of wins and a Tulsa victory over UTSA on Sunday, with Tulane holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Golden Hurricane courtesy of a three-set victory at Tulsa on Nov. 8. Tulane will finish in the top four unless the Green Wave is swept this weekend and MT and North Texas both win out. In that scenario, the Mean Green would get the No. 3 seed by virtue of a 2-0 record vs. Tulane and MT, the Blue Raiders would have the No. 4 seed with a 1-1 mark, and the Green Wave would fall to No. 5 with an 0-2 record between the teams.
Bye, Bye, ByeMiddle Tennessee enters the weekend still playing for a top-four seed and first-round bye in the Conference USA Volleyball Championship next weekend at Alumni Memorial Gym. The Blue Raiders capture the No. 4 seed with two wins and a North Texas loss at FIU or Florida Atlantic, or with a split of the weekend and two Mean Green losses. Middle Tennessee finishes third with a sweep of the weekend, a Tulane loss to Louisiana Tech, and a North Texas loss.
Speaking StatisticallyThrough Sunday's matches, redshirt-sophomore Tyler Richardson is 13th in the nation individually (.429) and 75th nationally in blocks per set (1.20). Both marks lead C-USA. Redshirt-junior Kendall Howard is ninth in Conference USA at 4.14 digs per set.
All That JazRedshirt-freshman Jazmyne Johnson matched a career-best with eight kills at Austin Peay (Nov. 5), while hitting .429 (8k-2e-14ta). She matched that total with eight in the next match vs. FIU (Nov. 8).
