MURFREESBORO - Middle Tennessee Head Men's Golf Coach Whit Turnbow announced today the signing of Connor Smith to a scholarship agreement. Smith, who received interest from Alabama, Auburn, UAB, Ole Miss, and Troy, is from Spain Park High School in Birmingham, AL and is the reigning 6A Alabama State High School Champion.

Smith, rated the No. 21 overall prospect by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard and 25th by the AJGA for the class of 2014, has enjoyed an incredible year.

Along with winning the state championship, Smith was voted the 2013 Metro News Golfer of the Year and won two AJGA events. Smith's current AJGA scoring average is 72.9. In a two-week period, Smith won both AJGA events this year beginning with the AJGA Huntsville Junior where he shot 69-72-66. He then shot 64-68-70 to win the Vaughn Taylor Championship presented by TaylorMade-Adidas.

In 2012, Smith won the AJGA Southwind Junior in Memphis (76-66-72) and also the AJGA Vaughn Taylor (67-69-72).

"Connor is exactly the type student-athlete we are looking for at Middle Tennessee," said Turnbow. "Tough, loyal, hardworking, humble, and a good student is how I describe Connor. From the moment I met him I was impressed with his maturity and work ethic which is a direct reflection of his parents, Phil and Cyndi. We are excited to have them all a part of the Blue Raider family."
