Raiders fall to Green Wave in four sets

MT closes out regular season at 17-12, 8-6 in C-USA

NEW ORLEANS - The Middle Tennessee volleyball team fell in four sets at Tulane on Sunday, the final day of Conference USA regular season play. In the defeat, the Blue Raiders drop to 17-12 and 8-6 in Conference USA, while Tulane improves to 26-3, with a 12-2 mark in C-USA.

Freshman Jale Hervey led the Blue Raiders with 13 kills and a .481 (13-0-27) hitting percentage. Sophomore Chelsea Ross (11) and redshirt-sophomore Tyler Richardson (10) joined Hervey with double-figure kill totals. Sophomore Shelby Anderton led MT with 28 assists.

Middle Tennessee took the first set while hitting a blistering .419 in the frame. The Blue Raiders were led by five kills in the set from redshirt-freshman Jazmyne Johnson, with Hervey adding four. MT took its first lead of the set at 20-19, closing out the set on a 9-3 run en route to a 25-22 victory.

Tulane rebounded after the first set and came firing back to win the next three and the match. The Green Wave limited themselves to just six attack errors total in the final three sets of the match, hitting .466 (47-6-88) over the final three sets of the match. Tulane won the second set, 25-15, before capturing the third by a 25-18 margin and the fourth by a 25-15 decision.

The Blue Raiders will be the No. 6 seed in the 2013 Conference USA Volleyball Championship, facing No. 11 FIU on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. at Alumni Memorial Gym. Middle Tennessee swept the Panthers, 3-0, in their previous matchup this season. A full bracket will be available later Sunday evening.
