Arkansas transfer to join MT in JanuaryDecember 3, 2013 · @MTAthletics
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Head men's tennis coach Jimmy Borendame has announced the signing of Victor Hoang for the spring 2014 season.
The Mississauga, Ontario native joins the Blue Raiders as a transfer for the spring season after playing his first two collegiate years at Arkansas. Hoang went 24-17 in two years of singles play for the Razorbacks, including tallying a team-high 18 victories as a sophomore in 2013.
"Victor brings two years of college experience to the table, which will help us in tight matches," said Borendame. "He played No. 4-No. 6 singles in the SEC and I expect him to at least be in that same range for us. He is a great team guy that brings a lot of energy on the court and I think he will mix in very well with our guys. Both Coach Epkey and I are happy to have him joining us in January."
Prior to his time in Fayetteville, Hoang attended St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School in Ontario. In his junior career, Hoang was ranked in the top 225 in the ITF world rankings, winning three ITF world titles and claiming a national singles finalist spot along with two doubles championships. The Ontario was also provincial champion three consecutive years.
The Blue Raiders open up the spring 2014 season with a pair of matches at Nashboro Village on Jan. 18. MT will host Chattanooga at 10 a.m. and Murray State at 4 p.m.
