NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Senior Shawn Jones of the Middle Tennessee men's basketball team (7-3) was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Player of the Week as announced by the organization Tuesday morning.

This marks the second TSWA weekly accolade for a Blue Raider this season as Neiko Hunter picked up the honor Nov. 12. The award comes just a day after Jones was named the Conference USA Player of the Week for leading MT to a 1-1 week, while averaging 18.0 points per game and 9.5 rebounds an outing.

The senior posted 18 points against Fisk in just 18 minutes of action Dec. 9, while recording his fourth double-double of the season in a loss at Ole Miss Dec. 14 with 18 points and a career-high and game-best 15 boards. This was the first time a Blue Raider has collected 15 rebounds since Lee Nosse grabbed 15 boards in a 94-88 loss to New Mexico Jan. 10, 2002.

Jones shot 85.7-percent, going 18-for-21 from the floor on the week. He was 9-for-10 against Fisk and 9-for-11 against the Rebels. At Ole Miss, the 6-8 forward slammed home five dunks, including four in the first half alone.

He led MT to its largest margin of victory all season with a 115-65 win over Fisk Dec. 9, before dropping a hard-fought 72-63 decision on the road at reigning SEC Tournament Champion Ole Miss Dec. 14. The high-scoring affair against Fisk was the first time MT has scored 100 points in a game since defeating Houston Baptist 109-79 Feb. 13, 2010 and marked the second time the Raiders have reached 100 points under head coach Kermit Davis.

On the year, Jones leads MT in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.6 points and 8.3 boards a game. He boasts a team-best 64.8 field goal percentage, ranking second in C-USA and 11th in the country.

The Blue Raiders return to the friendly confines of the Murphy Center Tuesday, hosting Tennessee Temple for a 7 p.m. nonconference contest.
