NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Senior forward Shawn Jones of the Middle Tennessee men's basketball team (9-5) was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Player of the Week as announced by the organization Wednesday.

This marks the second TSWA weekly accolade for Jones and third for a Blue Raider this season. The award comes after he posted his fifth double-double of the season in the team's only contest for the week ending Dec. 29.

The senior recorded 16 points and snagged a career-high 20 rebounds in an 89-85 overtime loss to Maine in the opening round of the Dr Peeper Classic hosted by Chattanooga Dec. 29. The 20 boards marked a first for a Blue Raider since Napoleon Rhodes grabbed 20 at UNC Greensboro Nov. 30, 2002. Jones connected on 6-of-12 shots from the floor, while hitting 4-for-8 at the line against the Black Bears.

The Raiders went on to defeat Grand Canyon 79-56 in the consolation game Dec. 30. The Hialeah, Fla., native led Middle Tennessee in the contest with 18 points and nine rebounds. He went on to earn Dr Pepper Classic All-Tournament Team honors.

The Blue Raiders return to action Jan. 7, closing out the nonconference slate with a 7 p.m. contest at Tennessee State.
