MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - With nearly half of the 2013-14 Middle Tennessee men's basketball season already in the books, GoBlueRaiders.com sat down with senior guard Kerry Hammonds II to get his thoughts on the Blue Raiders up to this point and the upcoming Conference USA schedule.

What is the team working on heading into its last nonconference game against Tennessee State next week?
"We're working on being tougher as a team, finishing possessions out, getting rebounds and just executing on the offensive end.

What do you think the nonconference schedule has taught the team as you head into Conference USA play soon?
"I think it taught us that we have to finish games out. A few of those games came down to one maybe two plays between us winning and losing the game so we know that every possession counts. We have to learn from that going into conference play.

What are you most excited about for the upcoming conference season?
"I'm excited for our first game against UAB because it should be a good test for us right off the bat going into Conference USA."

What does the team have to do to be successful in Conference USA play?
"We need to do the little things, keep defending and rebounding like we have been. We need to execute our offense, trust in one another and play for the guy beside you."

Do you feel greater responsibility to lead the team as you finish out your senior season?
"Oh definitely. We lost a lot of seniors last year, so me and a couple of the other returning players know that we have to step up our role."

Do you have a basketball role model?
"Yeah, Kobe Bryant. He's not the most athletic, but I admire his drive, his footwork and the way that he plays."

How did you spend your holiday break?
"I just went to my grandma's house. We always have the family over there to eat and exchange presents."
