MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - With nearly half of the 2013-14 Middle Tennessee men's basketball season already in the books, GoBlueRaiders.com sat down with senior guard Zane Gibson to get his thoughts about the season before the team starts Conference USA play Saturday.

What has the team been working on in practices lately?
"The biggest thing we've been working on has been defending, rebounding and just being tougher and executing more. That's probably been our biggest weaknesses so far. We breakdown sometimes, so that's what we're working on fixing and executing offensively."

What have you personally been working on?
"I don't think there's anything you can't work on, so I would just say a little bit of everything, defense, offense, just everything."

Do you have a particular game that you're looking forward to for the upcoming C-USA season?
"I don't think there's a particular one. I'm just ready to get into the Conference USA season because it's new. Since we've been in the Sun Belt this is something new that we haven't done before so it'll be new and exciting and interesting to be in."

What do you think this team needs to do to be successful the rest of the season?
"We just need come to work every day. We need to come and improve every single day. We can't have days where we come and don't get anything out of practice. We have to come, do our work and improve every single day."

Tell me about your favorite moment off the court this season...
"We hang out with each other all the time off the court. We're a tight-knit bunch so there are a lot of things we could talk about."

Who is the "clown" so to speak of the team?
"You could go with Neiko (Hunter), you could go with Kerry (Hammonds II). Those guys probably have the most energy and pop about them off the court. Tweety (Knight) and myself are probably more reserved if you're talking about the older guys. The younger guys always bring energy because they're the young bucks so Josh and Reggie always have energy in them... Oh and (Jacquez Rozier). Older guys, I would probably say Kerry and Neiko have more energy."

What did you most enjoy about the holiday break?
"I just love going to see my family. I'm really, really close with my mom and my dad so I just love going home. I know I'm only an hour and 45 minutes away from home, but I still don't get to see them all that much. So just being home with my family was probably the biggest thing."

What's your favorite childhood cartoon?
"I was a pretty big fan of The Rugrats and Catdog growing up."

If you could have dinner with any famous person, who would it be?
"Michael Jordan, because he's the greatest."

Do you have a basketball role model?
"I look up to a lot of guys. People that were seniors here at MT last year, my dad; I have a lot of people that are role models."
