IRVING, Texas - Eliud Rutto has been named Conference USA Indoor Male Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office today after his performance last Saturday at the Auburn Indoor Invitational.

Rutto was one of two athletes to have a first place finish at the Birmingham CrossPlex last Saturday. He ran the 800-meter in 1:50.19 for a new Middle Tennessee school record, and his time also ranks as the sixth fastest time in the country.

As a member of the 4x400-meter relay team, Rutto along with Andre Hamilton, Steven Palmer and Emmanuel Tugumisirize finished second with a time of 3:10.55 behind LSU, who won the event with a time of 3:09.17. Rutto ran his leg of the 400-meter in 46.8 seconds and helped the team rank 12th in the nation.

Rutto was the last male athlete to win Sun Belt Male Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors (Feb. 6, 2013) and Sun Belt Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week (April 4 ,2013).  This marks his second athlete of the week honor in C-USA, as he received the same recognition in cross country Aug. 30 after placing 12th at the Belmont Invitational.

"Anytime you can be athlete of the week is an honor," said Head Coach Dean Hayes. "Especially in a league we just joined. This league is pretty tough and to be named the athlete of the week is pretty good. Also, it shows we are competing on a national level."

Middle Tennessee will travel to Vanderbilt to compete on its new 300-meter track this Saturday.
