MT will play two matches at Ohio StateJanuary 24, 2014 · @MTAthletics
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Middle Tennessee men's tennis team returns to action this weekend with two matches in the 2014 ITA Kick-Off Weekend at Ohio State. The Blue Raiders will square off with No. 47 Louisville on Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by a match with either No. 5 Ohio State or No. 57 Denver on Sunday.
The Blue Raiders are coming off a dominant performance against Chattanooga to open the spring season last Saturday, taking all nine matches for a 7-0 victory over the Mocs. Saturday's match at Nashboro Village marked the Blue Raider debuts of junior transfer Victor Hoang and freshman Sam Matheson. The two newcomers paired up for a win at No. 3 doubles before both captured their first singles matches.
Saturday's match with the Cardinals will be first of two for the Blue Raiders this spring, as MT will make the trip to Louisville on March 23 for a showdown in the Bluegrass State. It will be the first meeting between the programs since March 14, 2009.
The Blue Raiders will be guaranteed to face a second nationally-ranked opponent on Sunday, with either the No. 5 Buckeyes or No. 57 Pioneers being the foe. Thirteen of MT's spring opponents are in the Jan. 21 ITA rankings, and this weekend will prove to be a solid barometer of the Blue Raiders' standing in the national picture.
This weekend begins a run of five straight matches on the road for the Blue Raiders, as following the two in Columbus, MT will travel to South Carolina, Vanderbilt and VCU.
