Irving, Texas - Eliud Rutto claimed his second Conference USA Male Track Athlete of the Week honor as announced by the conference office today. Rutto has now claimed three C-USA Athlete of the Week honors after previously garnering the award Sept. 3 following a 12th-place finish at the Belmont Invitational cross country meet in Nashville, Tenn.

Middle Tennessee has been Athlete of the Week or co-Athlete of the Week in men's track for three straight weeks, dating back to Rutto's first honor Jan. 21. Emmanuel Tugumisirize won the recognition Jan. 28 following his then NCAA third fastest time and MT school record in the 400-meter.

Rutto receives the award following his stellar performance at the Hilton Garden Invitational in Winston Salem, N.C. He competed in the 800-meter as part of the Camel City Elite Races and set the NCAA's best time of 1:47.45 following track conversion. Rutto finished second in the event but lost to two-time Olympic qualifier (2008 & 2012) Nick Symmonds. Symmonds narrowly bested Rutto with a time of 1:48.64 to Rutto's 1:48.96, prior to track conversion.

The Middle Tennessee men's and women's track teams will have an off week before splitting up to go to the Iowa State Classic Feb. 14 and the Cupid Classic Feb. 14-15.
