NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Middle Tennessee women's cross country team was named a 2013 Division I Cross Country All-Academic Team as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) today. The designation is the first for a Middle Tennessee cross country team in school history.

The Blue Raiders accumulated a 3.66 cumulative team GPA, which only is behind Southern Miss' 3.79 and Rice's 3.67 in Conference USA. To be named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team the team must earn a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or greater.

In November 2013, Autumn Gipson and Rachel Islam were also named to the All-C-USA Academic Team. Gipson and Islam were joined by Nicole Morgan (Charlotte), Felice Johnson (Southern Miss), Samantha Fish (UTSA), Kate Brown (UAB) and Elinor Kirk (UAB). Gipson maintained a 4.0 GPA while studying exercise science and Islam earned a 3.81 GPA in Psychology.

The Providence women's team and the Northern Arizona men's squad have been named the USTFCCCA Division I Scholar Teams of the year for 2013. The designation is earned by being the highest-finishing team at the NCAA Championships and earning All-Academic Team status.
