ORLANDO, Fla. - The Middle Tennessee softball team (1-6) dropped its second game of the day 2-1 to host UCF (5-0) to close the first day of the UCF/Holiday Inn Classic Tournament Friday.

Starting Middle Tennessee pitcher Jordyn Fisherback, pitched six innings and allowed two runs with only one earned. UCF starter Shelby Turnier pitched 6.1 innings while striking out nine Blue Raiders but found herself in trouble in the seventh. The Knight's Mackenzie Audas helped get UCF out of a bases loaded jam to earn her first save of the season. Kayla Toney led the Blue Raiders at the plate, hitting 2-for-4 against UCF and 4-for-7 for the day.

The Blue Raiders found themselves down 2-0 early for the second game of the day to host UCF. In the second frame, UCF hit a leadoff single to right field and after a pinch runner, stole second. The Knight runner advanced an extra base on the Fisherback wild pitch, which allowed a ground out by the next batter to plate the first run.

The third inning didn't start off well for MT, who allowed Kaitlyn Steckel to get on base due to a Blue Raider throwing error. Steckel then stole second and found her way to third on a ground out back to Fisherback. UCF's Goodman hit a single up the middle, giving UCF the 2-0 advantage.

With the game on the line in the top of the seventh, the Blue Raiders loaded the bases with one out. UCF's Audas came in to stop the Raiders' rally but threw a wild pitch to her first batter, which allowed Middle Tennessee's lone run. MT's next two batters went down swinging and received the free pass to first to load the bases once more. With two outs, Toney came to the plate having been the most consistent hitter of the day for MT, but she ground out to the second baseman to end the game.

Middle Tennessee continues play tomorrow against Illinois-Chicago at 10 a.m.
