MT defeated by VCU, 5-2

No. 56 Raiders downed by No. 33 Rams

RICHMOND, Va. - The Middle Tennessee men's tennis team captured wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but it was not enough to get by No. 33 VCU, as the No. 56 Blue Raiders fell 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the Thalhimer Tennis Center. In the defeat, MT falls to 1-5 in dual meets, while VCU improves to 8-3.

Ettore Zito won at No. 1 singles with a win over Alexis Heugas, falling in the first set before taking the second and third (1-6, 7-6 [7-5], 6-2).

At No. 2 singles, Victor Cornea emerged victorious over Nick Jones (4-6, 7-6 [7-0], 6-4).

The Rams took the other four singles points, along with the doubles point, for the 5-2 victory.

MT returns to action with a pair of matches on Sunday at Nashboro Village, hosting No. 30 Northwestern at 10 a.m. before squaring off with Tennessee State at 6 p.m.
