KENNESAW, Ga. - The Middle Tennessee baseball team fell to Kennesaw State, 18-1, on Sunday at Stillwell Stadium. In the defeat, the Blue Raiders fall to 1-2, while the Owls improve to 2-1.
Senior Ryan Stephens had the lone RBI for Middle Tennessee on a fifth-inning single, plating Jake Ellison, who led off the frame with a ringing double to left. Junior Dustin Delgado and senior Trent Miller both tallied two-hit days for the Blue Raiders.
The Owls scored two in the third and three in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead before MT got a run back in the top of the fifth on the Stephens RBI single. Kennesaw State would answer with one in the bottom of the frame, followed by three in the sixth, six in the seventh and three in the eighth.
Sophomore Garrett Ring was charged with the loss, going 3 2/3 innings while surrendering five runs - three earned - on seven hits, striking out four and walking one. Freshman Will Small, senior Cody Tollison, freshman Caleb Smith, junior Keaton Baker, freshman Brent Stockstill, senior Jonathan Sisco and freshman Reid Clements all made their season debuts in relief. Nathan Harsh picked up the win for Kennesaw State.
The Blue Raiders return to action on Tuesday with the home opener at Reese Smith Field, hosting Tennessee Tech for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
