Hammonds named C-USA Player of the Week

Senior earns weekly honors from C-USA and College Sports Madness

IRVING, Texas - After helping the Middle Tennessee men's basketball (19-7, 9-2 C-USA) move into a three-way tie for first in the Conference USA standings last week, senior guard Kerry Hammonds II picked up Conference USA Player of the Week honors from the league office and College Sports Madness.

This marks Hammonds' first C-USA weekly award and the third for the Blue Raiders this season. In a pair of Blue Raider wins last week, the Murfreesboro, Tenn., native averaged 22.0 points per game, shooting 58.8-percent from three-point range. He connected on 10-of-17 threes and 14-of-24 from the floor for a 58.3 field goal percentage. Hammonds was a perfect 6-for-6 from the line, while snagging 5.0 rebounds a game and handing out 2.5 assists an outing.

In MT's 81-64 win over Southern Miss Feb. 15, Hammonds went 6-for-10 from behind the arc, tying his career-best mark of six treys set against Louisiana Jan. 19, 2013. He led the Raiders with a season-best 26 points against the Golden Eagles, shooting 8-for-13 from the floor for 61.5-percent and going 4-for-4 form the line. The senior was 5-for-6 from behind the arc in the first half against Southern Miss, helping MT tie its program record of nine threes in a half.

Hammonds went 6-fof-11 from the floor and 4-for-7 from long distance en route to 18 points in MT's 71-44 win over Tulane Feb. 13. He collected four rebounds against the Green Gave, while dishing out three assists.

Middle Tennessee jumped to a four-way tie for first in the C-USA standings after a 27-point victory over Tulane Thursday. MT then moved into a three-way tie for first, after beating Southern Miss by 17 points. The Raiders are 9-2 in C-USA play and extended their winning streak to seven after the pair of wins last week.

MT returns to action Thursday, Feb. 20, traveling to Charlotte for a 6 p.m. tip-off in C-USA action.
