MT falls to Tennessee Tech, 9-5

Bryant, Delgado and Miller tally multi-hit games

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee baseball team fell to Tennessee Tech, 9-5, on Tuesday afternoon at Reese Smith, Jr. Field. In the defeat, the Blue Raiders fall to 1-3, while the Golden Eagles improve to 3-1.

Redshirt-junior Nathan Foriest gave the Blue Raiders a solid start in their lone midweek contest, going four innings while surrendering one run on two hits and a walk, striking out four. Foriest struck out the side looking in the fourth inning to close out his outing.

Junior 2B Austin Bryant went 3-for-3 for the Blue Raiders, tallying the first three-hit game of his MT career. Junior SS Dustin Delgado and senior 1B Trent Miller each recorded two-hit games for the Raiders in the defeat.

The Blue Raiders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, as Delgado started things off with a triple. With one out, Miller put a triple off the wall in center field to plate Delgado. One batter later, junior C Michael Adkins brought home Miller on a sacrifice fly.

TTU scored one in the second on a Brandon Thomasson home run and three in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead before the Raiders struck back in the bottom of the frame. Junior DH Jake Ingold and senior RF Jake Ellison hit back-to-back singles to open the inning, with Bryant loading the bases when the Tennessee Tech pitcher bobbled a sacrifice attempt.

Delgado would walk to bring in a run before senior CF Ryan Stephens tied the game on an RBI single. Miller then brought home the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice to second to make it a 5-4 Raider lead.

Tennessee Tech would score three in the eighth and two in the ninth, with the final two runs coming on Thomasson's second home run of the night.

Sophomore Heath Slatton was charged with the loss, falling to 1-1 on the year. Jacob Honea picked up the win in relief for the Golden Eagles.

The Blue Raiders return to action on Friday with a 3 p.m. first pitch at Reese Smith, Jr. Field against Dayton to open the Mule Mix Classic.
