MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee men's 4x400-meter relay team will make one last attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships by competing at Notre Dame in the Alex Wilson Invitational Saturday in Notre Dame, Ind.

The 4x400-meter squad of Andre Hamilton, Steven Palmer, Emmanuel Tugumisirize and Eliud Rutto finished second at last week's Iowa State Classic with a time of 3:08.01. The squad put together their best time of the season and rank 14th nationally.

In order to qualify for the Indoor NCAA Championships, the team must be ranked within the top 12. Florida ranks No. 1 in the mile relay, having set the nation's best time of 3:04.46 at the Razorback Invitational Jan. 31. WKU is currently 12th with a time of 3:07.80, which was set at the Iowa State Classic against Middle Tennessee as the Hilltoppers placed first in the event.

Joining the 4x400-meter relay team are Cordario Golden and India Hammond, who each competed in Ames, Iowa last week. Golden's distance of 15.74-meters in the triple jump has him 23rd in the country. Depending on how the remaining athletes jump, Golden would need to leap 15.90-meters to be tied for 16th in the country.

Hammond is tied for 25th in the NCAA with a mark of 12.73-meters set at the TSU Invite Feb. 1. She needs to tie current Conference USA leader Nickevea Wilson's distance of 12.89-meters to qualify for the NCAA.

The remaining Middle Tennessee track & field teams are taking the week off in preparation for the C-USA Championships in Birmingham, Ala., from Feb. 28-March 1. As released by the USTFCCCA yesterday, the men's squad is ranked No. 26 in the country with a total of 32.83 points. The Blue Raiders are behind No. 25 Northern Arizona (32.90 points) and ahead of No. 27 TCU (32.25).

Results will be posted to GoBlueRaiders.com following the conclusion of the Alex Wilson Invitational Saturday.
