Dukes tallies two RBI in 10-3 loss to Lady Demons

MT face Toledo tomorrow at 10 a.m.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee (4-10) lost its second game of the day 10-3 to Northwestern State (6-6), concluding two days at the Frost Classic. The Blue Raiders are 0-4 throughout the tournament and will play Toledo at 10 a.m. tomorrow to finish the classic.

NWLA jumped out to an early four-run lead in the top of the first. After a single by Cassandra Barefield to load the bases, MT committed an error that allowed two runs to score. Two batters later Micayla Sorosiak doubled to left center, scoring two more.

MT took one run back on a Laura Dukes double to left field in the bottom of one before NWLA added one run in the top of the second and two more runs in the third. The Lady Demons held a comfortable 7-1 lead heading into the bottom of the third. The Blue Raiders put runners on second and third and Dukes hit a ground out to shortstop for her second RBI of the day.

Middle Tennessee received one more run in the fourth after holding Northwestern State scoreless in the top half of the inning. Nina Dever slapped a leadoff single to left field and made it to third after two ground outs. McKena Miller hit a RBI single, which plated Dever and narrowed the NWLA lead to 7-3.
Each team went scoreless in the fifth and NWLA opened the sixth with back-to-back singles. Barefield came to the plate and hit a three-run home run to left field for the final runs of the game.

Dukes finished 3-for-4 against NWLA with two RBI and a double. Austyn Whaley finished 1-of-2 at the plate with a double and a walk. 

Jordyn Fisherback (1-4) started the game and pitched 1.1 innings and allowed five runs with one earned. Caitlin McClure pitched the bulk of the innings against NWLA, finishing with 4.2 innings and five runs with four earned. Shelby Stinnett threw the final 1.0 innings and surrendered only one hit.

Middle Tennessee concludes the Frost Classic tomorrow at 10 a.m. against Toledo.
