Ohio, NWLA derail MT 3-2 and 10-3

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee (4-10) concluded the second day of the Frost Classic with a narrow 3-2 defeat to Ohio (10-1) and a 10-3 loss to Northwestern State (6-6).
Kayla Toney led the Blue Raider offensively in game one, hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the third following a McKena Miller single. Toney has two home runs in the Frost Classic, hitting a three-run shot against Campbell yesterday.
Ohio scored one run in the top of the second and added the two go-ahead runs in the fourth. The Bobcats tallied 15 hits and left nine runners on base, while MT totaled six hits with five runners on the base paths.
Shelby Stinnett (1-4) was designated with the loss, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up seven hits and three earned runs. Caitlin McClure shut out the Bobcats through the final 3.1 innings and gave up eight hits with two strike outs.
Against Northwestern State, starting pitcher Jordyn Fisherback (1-4) pitched the opening 1.1 innings and surrendered five runs with one earned. The Lady Demons raced out to a commanding lead, plating four in the first inning.
MT took one run back on a Laura Dukes double to left field in the bottom of one before NWLA added one run in the second and two more runs in the third. The Lady Demons held a comfortable 7-1 lead heading into the bottom of the third. The Blue Raiders put runners on second and third and Dukes hit a ground out to shortstop for her second RBI.
Middle Tennessee received one more run in the fourth after holding Northwestern State scoreless in the top half. Nina Dever slapped a leadoff single to left field and advanced to third after two ground outs. Miller then hit a RBI single to the first base side, which plated Dever and narrowed the NWLA lead to 7-3.
In the fifth, Northwestern State's Cassandra Barefield laced a three-run home run to achieve the final 10-3 score and squander what momentum the Blue Raiders had.
Dukes finished the day 5-for-7 at the plate with two RBI and five total bases. Miller added one RBI while going 3-for-6. Nina Dever and Kayla Toney each recorded two hits and concluded the second day 2-for6 and 2-for-8, respectively.
Middle Tennessee concludes the Frost Classic tomorrow at 10 a.m. against Toledo.
