Blue Raiders drop 9-0 decision to Indiana State

Delgado and Stephens combine for four of MT's five hits

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee dropped a 9-0 decision to Indiana State on the final day of the Mule Mix Classic Sunday afternoon.

The Sycamores (6-1) won their sixth consecutive game with a solid pitching effort combined with scoring nine runs on 10 hits. Middle Tennessee (3-4) had two-hit outings from Dustin Delgado and Ryan Stephens to lead the Raiders.

Brad Lombard got the win for ISU with no runs allowed on four hits in seven innings tossed. The right-hander fanned three and gave up a walk, improving to 2-0 this season. Garret Ring took his second loss of the year for MT, giving up four runs on four hits in four innings of work. Ring struckout three and gave up two walks.

In the top of the second, a single and a hit batter setup a three-run home run by Tyler Wampler. Jacob Hayes sacrifice fly to left field drove in Landon Curry to extend ISU's lead to 4-0.

Offensively, Middle Tennessee collected three hits and stranded four in the first four innings of work. Nathan Foriest came in for relief in the fifth, giving up five earned runs on three hits in the next two and a third innings thrown. Indiana State added three more runs in the fifth from Hayes, Cody Zimmerman and Hunter Owen. In the seventh, a walk and a hit batsmen setup two more runs for Indiana State with an RBI sacrifice groundout and a single, extending the Sycamores' lead to 9-0.

Freshman Kaleb King earned his first career hit with a double to left field in the seventh, but the Raiders couldn't spur up the offense. ISU's Lunsford closed the final two innings giving up just one hit and a walk.

The Blue Raiders' Heath Slatton and Will Small closed the final 2.2 innings, giving up no runs on three hits. Connor McClain led the ISU offense with a 3-for-3 day at the plate, scoring two runs and driving in a run.

Middle Tennessee returns to action next Friday with a weekend series against MAC preseason favorite Kent State.
