Blue Raiders host Samford Tuesday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee softball team (4-11) hosts Samford (12-3) for a doubleheader in its first home games of the 2014 slate Tuesday at 1 p.m.

The Blue Raiders finished the Frost Classic winless, dropping five games through the Feb. 21-23 tournament. Laura Dukes led the Blue Raiders at the plate, hitting 8-for-16 with 11 total bases, six RBI, and three doubles through the tournament. Senior Kayla Toney tallied two home runs and five RBI, while finishing 4-for-19 at the plate. LaRi Mitchell and McKena Miller each tallied five and four hits, respectively.

Shelby Stinnett was tagged with an 0-3 record, pitching 11.1 innings while allowing 21 hits and nine earned runs. Jordyn Fisherback finished 0-2 while throwing 7.0 innings and 10 runs with five earned. Caitlin McClure started one game and made four appearances while leading the team with 13.2 innings pitched and surrendered nine earned runs with six strikeouts.

The Samford Bulldogs come to Murfreesboro with a 12-3 record and a recent 3-1 record at the Auburn Tournament Feb. 21-23. Samford's only loss came to Auburn in a 3-0 contest with victories over Mississippi Valley State 10-0 and 9-4 and Purdue 6-3.

At the plate, the Bulldogs are led by Megan Dowdy who has a team-high .365 batting average and 19 hits. Abby Adams leads Samford with five home runs and is tied for a team-best 13 RBI with Callie Brister. Adams was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week after tallying a .474 batting average with five RBI in helping Samford to a 5-1 record this past week.

Mollie Hanson holds a 6-3 record inside the circle while holding a team-best 2.55 ERA, 52 strike outs and 46.2 innings pitched. Grey Adams has recorded a 3-0 record in 22.1 innings pitched.

The first game of the double header is set to start at 1 p.m. with the second game to follow approximately 30 minutes later with both games being video streamed.
